It is 2323 AD. Dr Simon Kong, lonely yet brilliant, last grandmaster of the Ancient Order of the Funk, plays the slap bass and performs his temporal experiments on his asteroid, Fred B612. It is a wild solo, full of harmonics, that he uses to summon – the Time Dragon! The Dragon, using his awesome guitar of electricity, recommends that Dr Kong brings his jar of medicinal stem cells and his collection of ancient funk relics on a journey back in time to the 1970’s, where Bootsie, Sly and Parliament can show him the old-school mysteries of the Funk. But something goes terribly wrong! Buffeted by strong temporal winds, the Time Studio never makes it to the twentieth century. Instead it is stranded in the pre-apocalyptic nightmare that is the 2010’s; but not before the funk relics and the stem cell jar smash together in an unhappy accident, creating a group of young and middle-aged men, bewildered and yet somehow able to play the ancient melodies and rhythms of the Funk!
DR KONG and the STEM CELLS: Dragon Naruse, Guitar Takeshi Kawabata, Keyboards Matthew Lee, Saxophone Pete Lothian, Trombone Ben Hingley, Flute Sean Davis, Congas Steve Allison, Drums Simon Kong, Bass
Does Dr Kong miss the technological delights of the 24th Century? Does he fear the coming Cataclysm in 2021? You bet he does! Yet he and his Stem Cells entertain one desperate hope: if enough people get down on the Funk, the Cataclysm may be averted through a poorly explained series of events involving sub-atomic peace particles! Help to save the world. Get down on the Funk. Hear the Kong, and do the dance of Time!
